National Research Conference on “Quality Education and Ecological Sustainability”

Guna Tana Integrated Field Research and Development Center Conducted National Research Conference on Quality Education and Ecological Sustainability”on may 18-19/2017 at Debre Tabor University.

H.E Ato Gedu Andargachew President of the ANRS in his opening speech notified that even though DTU is one of the newly established universities, its accomplishment in multi directional affairs is moving rapidly forward. The indicators of these are the effectiveness of the university in providing community services for the local surroundings, the research undertakings and the teaching-learning.



In her opening remark, Dr. Hirut Kassaws Board chairperson of DTU and Head, culture and Tourism Bureau of ANRS mentioned that to make meaning full teaching learning process, to get quality education, and to sustain our country development scholars should conduct problem solving research.



In his remark, Dr. Alemayehu Kebede, President of DTU, stated that DTU is introducing a new approach of teaching system known as ` innovative curriculum` which will bring creative, imaginative problem solving and critical thinking in to play. To make it true the university decided to organize Guna Tana integrated field research and development center ( GTLFRDC) to realize the aforementioned educational philosophy in an open field environment where man and nature interact with each other. With this field based learning, the university strived to integrate education, research and community service in three and one principle. This again made DTU as “University without walls”.


In his welcome remark, Dr. Menberu Teshome, Vice President for Research and Community Service Mentioned that the university has designed and implemented Innovative student centered curriculum, applying Problem Based Learning, the university promotes Quality Education and Ecological Sustainability. He stated    that the principle objective is to introduce the new integrated academic research and community engagement, philosophies and to obtain constructive feedback from the conference




Various participants from regional and federal offices, researchers from different public universities across the country had been participated in the conference. Different research out puts in line with the research theme had been presented as well as group discussion in different teams on GTIFRDC has been conducted.
